Dušan Tadić has signed a two-year contract with NEC Nijmegen. The Serbian forward returns to Dutch football after leaving Al Wahda. His agreement runs until the summer of 2028.
NEC finished third in the latest Eredivisie season. The club will also enter Champions League qualifying against Olympiacos. Tadić joins before those important European matches.
Tadić signs a two-year contract with NEC
NEC completed the agreement after several days of public discussion. Tadić arrived as a free agent after his contract in Abu Dhabi. Tadić completed his medical and signed the contract with NEC.
The contract covers two full seasons in Nijmegen. Tadić will approach his fortieth birthday near the end of that term. The contract keeps Tadić in Nijmegen for two full seasons.
NEC becomes the fourth Dutch club of his senior career. He previously represented Groningen, Twente and Ajax. Those spells gave him extensive experience across the Eredivisie.
The club adds another experienced attacker to its squad. Tjaronn Chery and Bryan Linssen already provide many senior appearances. Tadić now joins that group before the new league season.
His first weeks include training and preparation for competitive matches. NEC open the domestic season at home in August. European qualifying adds another early demand to the schedule.
NEC enter the season from third place
NEC completed the previous Eredivisie campaign in third position. The team scored 77 league goals across 34 matches. Only the two leading clubs finished above them in the table.
That result placed Nijmegen in Champions League qualifying. NEC will face Olympiacos in the third qualifying round. The two matches arrive soon after the squad returns to competition.
European qualifiers make the opening weeks busier. The club has to prepare for domestic and international games together. Tadić brings experience from many similar schedules.

Tadić previously enjoyed a successful spell in the Eredivisie with Ajax.
NEC have not entered this position through a short play-off run. Third place came from the full Dutch league season. The result also raised expectations before the summer recruitment period.
The signing adds a player familiar with leading Dutch opponents. Tadić knows the stadiums and travel demands across the league. He also understands the pressure attached to European qualification.
His strongest Dutch years came with Ajax
Tadić joined Ajax in 2018 after four seasons in England. He quickly became captain and a key attacker. His first campaign included a memorable Champions League run.
Ajax reached the 2019 semi-finals after eliminating Real Madrid and Juventus. Tadić produced a celebrated performance at the Santiago Bernabéu. That European season remains a central part of his club career.
He played 241 competitive matches for Ajax and scored 105 goals. The club won three Dutch league titles during his period. He also supplied many assists from central and wide positions.
Tadić left Amsterdam in 2023 and moved to Fenerbahçe. He later continued his career with Al Wahda in the Emirates. The NEC agreement now brings him back to the same national league.
His role has changed as his career has progressed. He now combines creative passing with movement around the penalty area. NEC receive that experience rather than a player beginning a new league.
A Serbian leader begins another Dutch season
Tadić earned more than one hundred appearances for the Serbian national team. He captained the side during major qualifying campaigns and final tournaments. His international career ended after the 2024 European Championship.

The move keeps a prominent Serbian player in a leading European league. NEC offer domestic competition and a place in European qualifying. Tadić can therefore play in domestic and European matches.
Supporters in the Netherlands already know his style and history. Ajax fans recently welcomed him during a visit to Novi Sad. He now returns as a player for another Eredivisie club.
Tadić has signed the contract and completed the transfer. He has joined NEC's registered squad. Tadić is now preparing for his first match in NEC colours.
Nijmegen begins a demanding season with an experienced new forward. Tadić returns to Dutch football after playing for three earlier clubs. Both the player and NEC are committed until summer 2028.
The agreement follows a short free-agent period
Tadić became available after finishing his spell with Al Wahda. NEC could therefore negotiate directly without paying another club. The medical examination preceded the final contract announcement.

The experienced Serbian returns to Dutch football with NEC Nijmegen.
The two-year term runs through two domestic league campaigns. It also covers any European matches earned during that period. The club announced a completed signing rather than preliminary talks.
Nijmegen offers a familiar language and football environment. Tadić spent several successful seasons in the Netherlands before moving abroad. He returns after spending more than ten years in other leagues.
NEC's squad already includes several experienced attacking players. Tadić adds passing from central and wide positions. His recent roles have also included work close to the striker.
The club registers him before its European qualifying tie. NEC will face Olympiacos over two matches. The winner continues toward the Champions League league phase.
His Eredivisie record stretches across three clubs
Groningen brought Tadić to Dutch football from Vojvodina. He later moved to Twente and became a leading creator. Those seasons earned his transfer to Southampton.
Ajax returned him to the Eredivisie in 2018. He became captain and played across five complete seasons. The period included domestic titles and long European campaigns.
His Ajax record contains 105 goals in 241 competitive appearances. Many other goals followed passes or crosses from Tadić. He played centrally, from the left and as a false nine.
NEC finished the last league season with seventy-seven goals. The team now adds another established creator to that attack. The signing arrives before domestic and European fixtures overlap.
Tadić will wear NEC colours for the first time after preseason work. His contract and squad place are already confirmed. The return gives Serbian supporters another regular Eredivisie player.
The first weeks combine two competitions
NEC begins domestic football while preparing for Olympiacos. The coaching staff will use training to integrate Tadić quickly. His knowledge of Dutch opponents reduces one part of that process.
The European registration deadline differs from the domestic league deadline. The completed contract allows the club to finish both procedures. Tadić then becomes available for either competition.
The move brings him back to grounds where he played for years. He will now visit former opponents in an NEC shirt. That return begins with a confirmed two-season agreement.
NEC announced the transfer before the main competitive schedule began. Tadić therefore joins while the squad is still building match fitness. The timing gives him training sessions before selection.
His Dutch record is familiar to supporters across the league. The new challenge comes with a club entering European qualification. Both parts begin during the same opening weeks.
